The Hellenic Aviation Society (HAS) has successfully concluded its 2-day flagship Conference on May 15, 2018. The Conference was entitled ‘5th Aviation Conference: Air Transport of Today and Tomorrow’ and featured the Chairman of the Board of AIA, Dr. Dimitrios Dimitriou as Keynote Speaker and the Chairman of the Hellenic Air Accident Investigation and Aviation Safety Board (AAIASB), Mr. Athanasios Binis as Invitee Speaker.
The Conference, which was held at Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ (AIA), takes place every 2 years since 2010. This hallmark event attracts participants from the entire spectrum of the air transport industry and beyond. During this year’s proceedings, invitees have had the opportunity to hear from speakers originating both from the world of civil aviation and the Air Force and the world of academia.
The field of new technologies was a very dynamic topic for discussion and analysis this year, not just because of the two-way, interactive relationship between airports/airlines and passengers (one notable example being the automated passport control gates) but also because of the role new technologies begin to play in aviation marketing and daily operations. Airport infrastructures and the recent developments in this sector in Greece, the tourist industry’s interaction with air carriers and airport authorities via actions and synergies as well as the environmental impact due to the rapid increase in global passenger traffic – and in Greece, especially over the past five years – were also examined closely during the various parallel discussions among speakers and invitees.
The Hellenic Aviation Society’s membership comprises of people with deep knowledge about the domestic and international aviation industry. It is the only organization in Greece that brings together all sectors with either a direct or indirect involvement in aviation; The Civil Aviation Authority, Airlines, Airports, Armed Forces Personnel, General Aviation, Aviation Legal Experts, Academics, Tourist organizations, Travel Market, Aviation Funs and Enthusiasts. With that in mind, it is no surprise that this year’s speakers came from a multitude of organizations, such as the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, the Hellenic Air Force, Secretariat General Staff from the Hellenic Ministry for National Defense, Fraport Hellas A.G., The Democritus University of Thrace and other universities, the Hellenic-American Union (a notable and worthy supporter of HAS’ work), AIA, Aircraft and Civil Engineers, and Aviation and Space Legal Experts.
The HAS Board (President, Ms. Ioanna Papadopoulou, Vice President, Ms. Mariza Economou, Sec. General, Mr. Emmanuel Gyzis, Treasurer, Mr. Spiros Jancovich, and Members Messrs. Takis Adamidis, Ioannis Stavlas, Andreas Papatheodorou and Alternate Member Mr. Dimitris Karpouzas) would like to all thank the speakers, the participants and invitees, AIA for providing the space for this event and turned out, as usual with HAS events, a fine host, and everyone who has helped organize this Conference. The Board would also like to warmly thank the sponsors, without whom this event would not have taken place: Athens International Airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’, Law Office ‘Emm. Gyzis and Associates’, Goldair Handling, Ellinair, AON, K2 Kaifas and the media sponsors, Greek Travel Pages, metaforespress.gr and Aviation News.
